A delicious steak pasta recipe that is perfect for the whole family. This is a one bowl meal that is flavorful, but still simple and healthy.
This Steak Pasta recipe is a delicious family meal that we make on busy nights. It's full of flavor, but still simple and healthy.
The best part? The entire family, including the kids, think it's tasty.
This Steak and Pasta Recipe is Easy to Make
I love an easy meal. This Steak Pasta is perfect for a busy weeknight dinner. I can make this forgiving recipe even when the kids interrupt me multiple times as I'm cooking.
Moreover, the ingredients used in this recipe are easy to substitute in and out. I generally think of this recipe as a meal idea, as opposed to a recipe that needs to be strictly followed. So feel free to follow the recipe as much or as little as you want.
Steak and Pasta is a One Bowl Dinner
Besides being easy to make, I also love this steak and pasta recipe because it's a simple one bowl dinner. As a result, we have fewer dishes to clean at the end. Plus, the kids can easily feed themselves with a spoon.
I make this Steak Pasta as a one bowl dinner by cutting the steak into bite-sized pieces before cooking. By doing so, it shortens both the marinade and cooking times. In addition, I use pasta shapes (as opposed to spaghetti), and use chopped vegetables.
Shopping Tip: Here's a favorite healthy pasta we always stock up and keep on hand. It's the pasta in the photos.
How to Make this Steak Pasta Recipe
This is a very easy basic recipe. To summarize, I marinade the steak in a simple soy-ginger sauce, then stir fry it. Next, I boil the pasta and vegetables. Lastly, I toss everything together with olive oil and sesame oil.
Ingredients
Here are the ingredients needed to make this one bowl steak pasta recipe:
- Sirloin or NY strip steak
- Marinade - soy sauce, ginger, sugar, and olive oil
- Pasta
- Vegetables - carrots, broccoli, corn (or your choice)
- Pasta dressing - olive oil and sesame oil
Time saving tip: We always keep a jar of this organic minced ginger in the fridge. It makes adding ginger to recipes a breeze.
Directions and Cooking Tips
You can make this recipe in about 15 minutes, with some multi-tasking.
Marinade the steak
The first step is make the marinade in a bowl. Next, cut the steak into small bite-sized pieces and mix it in the marinade.
Cook the pasta and vegetables
As the steak marinades, boil the water and cook the pasta. While the pasta is boiling, prepare the vegetables by cutting them into bite-sized pieces.
Alternatively, you can use frozen mixed vegetables for this recipe too.
The vegetables only need to cook for a short amount of time. Therefore, add the vegetables to the boiling pasta a few minutes before the pasta finishes cooking.
Sear the steak
Once you add the vegetables into the pot with the pasta, it's time to stir-fry the steak in a skillet. You only need to sear the bite-sized pieces of steak for a few minutes.
Toss everything together
Drain the pasta when it is tender. Lastly, toss everything together with olive oil and sesame oil.
Does Steak Go Well with Pasta?
Steak is delicious when served alongside pasta. In this recipe, the flavorful steak and pasta is served together with vegetables in a one bowl dinner.
Often you might see steak served alongside, but not mixed in pasta. Or slices of steak served on top of pasta. I don't do either of those in this recipe.
Instead, I cut the steak into small bite-sized pieces so everyone can scoop the dinner with a spoon. That way, I'm not sitting at the dinner table cutting the steak for the kids piece by piece. Moreover, the kids also can easily self-feed and get all the flavors together in one bite.
What Is the Best Cut of Steak for Pasta?
A lean steak is the best cut of steak to go with pasta. I like to use either sirloin or NY strip (with the strip of fat along the edge trimmed off).
Because this entire meal cooks on the stovetop, using a lean cut of steak results in less smoke and splatter when cooking too.
In addition, it's not worth using a pricier cut of steak for this recipe because the steak is marinated. However, because the steak is only sits in the marinade for less than 10 minutes, super tough cuts of meat won't tenderize enough for this recipe.
It's best to use sirloin, NY strip, or even flat iron steak.

Ingredients
Steak
- 1 lbs sirloin steak or NY strip steak
Marinade

- 2 teaspoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon minced ginger
- 1 teaspoon sugar
Pasta
- 8 oz pasta
- 3 cups broccoli florets see notes
- 1 medium carrot (about ½ cup diced) - see notes
- ½ cup frozen corn kernels see notes
- 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
- 2 teaspoons sesame oil adjust to taste
- salt to taste
Instructions
Marinade the Steak
- In a bowl large enough to hold the steak, mix the soy sauce, olive oil, ginger and sugar together.
- Cut the steak into bite-sized pieces.
- Add the steak into the marinade and mix.
Cook the Pasta and Vegetables
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil.
- In the meantime, start preparing the vegetable. Peel and dice the carrots. Cut the broccoli into bite-sized pieces. Skip this step if you are using frozen mixed vegetables.
- When the water boils, add in the pasta. Cook until the pasta is about 3 minutes from being done. At that point, add in the prepared vegetables and continue to cook.
- When the pasta is tender, drain everything and return to the pot. Toss in olive oil and sesame oil.

- As the pasta is cooking, or once the pasta is done, sear the steak in a medium sized skillet on medium-high heat. Because of the small bite-sized pieces, the steak should only take a few minutes to cook.
Toss and Serve
- Once the pasta, vegetables and steak are done, toss everything together and serve. Enjoy!
