Birthday Scavenger Hunt
My kids love when the very first thing they do on their birthday morning is a scavenger hunt! I set it up at night, and leave the first clue taped to their door.
So in the morning, when the birthday kid wakes up, the scavenger hunt is ready to go. I don't have to scramble in the morning to get it ready. If I'm still lounging in bed, the birthday kid is occupied for a bit.
We hide the birthday presents at the end of the scavenger hunt. Our kid thought it was so funny when we hid it in the shower!

Giant Number Balloon
We buy the kids a giant number balloon every birthday. It's become a tradition. The kids both look forward to it every single year.
Giant number balloons can be a bit pricey to buy already inflated. Also, they are difficult to drive with in the car. Even more, inflated giant balloons are hard to hide away for a surprise.
For those reasons, I buy a helium tank to inflate the balloons myself. Helium tanks and giant number balloons are both convenient to buy.
My daughter loves this giant rainbow four.
We have had some issues with giant number balloons not floating, even if inflated with helium. From my experience, the larger the number, the better it will float. For example, 40'' balloons tend to float better than 32'' balloons.
Also, numbers without many bends and curves, such as the numbers one and seven, float better. Those numbers require less material, adding less weight to the balloon. Therefore, number eight was particularly problematic.
But even if you can't get the extra large number to float with helium, they are easy to tape up. Similarly, you can hang the balloon with string from the ceiling. That's how we did it with the number four in the photo.
Birthday Interview
A birthday interview is a fun way to make the birthday person feel extra special. We ask the birthday person lots of questions about themselves.
