Filling Halloween Leaf Bags as a Family Activity

What started as a simple pumpkin leaf bag turned out to be so much more. The kids often take me by surprise when they find so much joy in just doing things together. It reminds me that we need to take a step back and be in the moment.

"Let's go out and fill bags up with pine needles," I said after an early dinner one week night. We often ask the kids to help with yard clean-up. They do it, but often grumble or use the opportunity to bargain for a treat in return. It just crushes me to sink so low as to exchange their yard clean up help with video game time.

Holding up the pumpkin, cat and skeleton leaf bags worked wonders that night though. "Yeah!!" They shouted. Shoes went on and feet pattered out.

They laughed, they ran around, and they shared ideas on how to best rake the pine needles and get the needles into the bags. I saw them take turns holding the bag open for one another, and switching off who gets the rake. Watching them work together is beautiful.

Behind the camera lens, I had a moment to step back and really see the kids have fun together.

I suppose there aren't many chores that don't feel like chores to kids. And even rarer is the chore that they need each others help to complete.

I feel like I hit the jackpot buying these cute Halloween leaf bags this year. Lucky me got to watch them fill it together and build their own bond. Honestly, it was such a lovely way to spend a fall evening as a family. I really needed it too.

    Best Halloween Leaf Bags

This is the set of Halloween leaf bags that we used. It has a total of 9 bags - 3 pumpkins, 3 black cats, and 3 skeletons. They loved it!

The extra large pumpkin bag is just about as big as my 4-year-old! The kids needed help with this extra large bag because when filled up, they had trouble carrying it.

However, the cat leaf bags and skeleton leaf bags are smaller and the perfect size for kids. Both the kids worked together so well filling all of the smaller bags. Then, they were able to carry them and set the bags out where they wanted the decorations.

Leaf Bags are Practical Halloween Decorations

This is probably one of the most useful Halloween decoration ever invented too. Not only are they super cute, they are incredibly practical.

Surprisingly, these bags also seem thick enough to last another use. After Halloween, I might try simply dumping the pine needles out into our green yard waste bin, and saving the bags for next year.

If I don't end up saving them for next year, we will certainly reuse these leaf bags as a trash bag. I love that these Halloween leaf bags can be repurposed again before tossing.

If you haven't already picked up your fall leaves and finished your yard clean-up, don't miss out on these cute Halloween leaf bags. I hope your kids enjoy this fun fall leaf activity as much as mine did!
