Die Cast Space Shuttle
Buy this cool Die Cast Space Shuttle on Amazon.
My son has two of these Die-Cast Metal Space Shuttles. The first one is specifically the Endeavor Shuttle that we bought at The California Academy of Sciences. Then we came across this shuttle again at the Science Museum in London, and he bought a second one.
Both shuttles we bought are slightly different, but I am pretty sure they are same as this one on Amazon. It's sturdy because it's die-cast metal too.
Space Racer Paper Rockets

Buy this Space Racers: Make Your Own Paper Rockets book on Amazon.
This Space Racers: Make Your Own Paper Rockets book is an incredible space gift for kids. We have just about finished making all the rockets. They are challenging, and definitely require adult help.
Here are two of the rockets blasting off in my kid's bedroom. The rockets hang with fishing line and command hooks on the ceiling.
You can make a total of 10 model rockets. Any space lover will appreciate this gift.
Perler Smithsonian Space Shuttle Kit

Buy this Smithsonian Space Shuttle Perler Bead Kit on Amazon.
This Smithsonian Space Shuttle Perler Bead Kit is super neat! Not surprisingly, my kid loves this Christmas gift he received from his grandma.
This fuse bead kit makes the space shuttle in launch position, including the external tank and boosters. The kit is 2000 pieces. Even more, it comes with 2x large Perler pegboards that can be reused for other projects.
In my experience, this fuse bead project is not the easiest to iron, so take your time. Iron both the front and back. I kept flipping and ironing both sides, until the fuse beads cooled flat.
This space Perler fuse bead kit is very engaging and makes a great gift for a kid. My kid thoroughly enjoyed making it. In addition, this kit inspired him to design several other space-themed fuse bead creations.
Space Themed Puzzles

Our kids own several space themed puzzles. Puzzles make great gifts for kids because they are fun and educational at the same time.
Here are a few of our favorite space puzzles:
- 100 Piece Rockets Puzzle - This puzzle contains 15 different popular rockets, including the Space Shuttle, Saturn V, Soyuz, and Mercury. Made in the USA by EuroGraphics.
- 200 Piece Solar System Puzzle - This puzzle is great because it shows the planets in orbit around the sun. Most of the solar system puzzles just show random planets floating in the image. However, this Ravensburger puzzle actually shows the orbits of the planets in order.
- 500 Piece History of Space Travel Puzzle - We love this puzzle. It's challenging, but doable for my 8-year-old with help. This puzzle is filled with interesting information, including photos of rockets, space stations, and astronaut space suits.
Space Lego Sets

Lego makes several space theme sets. While there are simpler space lego sets available, my space loving kid is really only interested in the NASA-inspired sets. These sets are more realistic and not so kiddie.
As a gift, these are a bit pricey. Therefore, we've saved them for larger celebrations. However, my kid truly treasures them and frequently plays with his space lego sets.
These are the NASA-inspired Lego Sets we love:
- International Space Station Lego Set - 864 pieces - He likes rotating the solar panels around while playing.
- Saturn V Rocket - 1969 pieces - This one is huge! It's over 39 inches when complete.
- Apollo 11 Lunar Lander - 1087 pieces - The Lunar Lander is fun when played with the Saturn V.
- Space Shuttle Discovery - 2354 pieces - Has an opening payload bay and includes the Hubble Telescope.
International Space Station 4D Puzzle
Buy this 4D Master International Space Station on Amazon.
Surprisingly, there aren't many International Space Station toys available. This 4D Master International Space Station model is the best one I found. We saw it in the Hong Kong Space Museum, but bought it online back in the US.
Overall, it's pretty simple to put together. My kid was able to more or less construct it himself. However, I needed to use an craft knife to cut some of the plastic pieces off apart.
We ended up gluing most of the station together after building it. Therefore, it makes the model more stable for play.
Space Suits

Buy the orange ACES suit suit and orange space helmet from Amazon.
Space suits are so much fun for pretend play. We have a couple space suits that we love.
Lately, my space lover kid likes to pretend he's on the space shuttle. Consequently, he wears this orange ACES suit, along with this orange space helmet. It's a sweet set up. He used his birthday money to buy it as a gift.
Prior to the ACES suit, he lived in this Melissa and Doug Spacesuit from the age of 3. While the suit has been passed on to his little sister, he still still uses the silver helmet and the gloves from this set. It pairs well with his ACES suit.
NASA Space Patches
Buy this fun set of space-themed iron on patches on Amazon.
For a perfect stocking stuffer, grandma gifted my space loving kid a set of NASA space patches. Amazon sells lots of sets, but this is the best set because it's the only one that includes the Commander Patch. In addition, this set includes the meatball and worm patches too.
You can see a couple of the patches ironed onto his ACES suit in the photo above.
Space Books for Kids

We have a whole collection of space themed books at our home. We've probably also checked out just about every single space book in the library. There are many fabulous space books that would make perfect gifts for the space lover.
Here are our top recommendations for a fun and educational space-themed gift:
- This Book Is a Planetarium: And Other Extraordinary Pop-Up Contraptions by Kelli Anderson
- Let's Tell A Story: Space Adventure by Lily Murray
- Pop-Up Moon by Annabelle Buxton, Olivier Charbonnel, and Anne Jankeliowitch
- Endurance, Young Reader's Edition: My Year in Space and How I Got There by Scott Kelly
- My Journey to the Stars by Scott Kelly
- Space A Visual Encyclopedia by DK Children's Visual Encyclopedias
- Science Comics: Solar System Our Place in Space by Rosemary Mosco and Jon Chad
- Science Comics: Rockets: Defying Gravity by Anne Drozd and Jerzy Drozd
Apollo Board Game

Buy this Apollo board game on Amazon.
This board game makes an incredible gift for a true space lover. I didn't know much about this Apollo board game before buying it, so initially I was a bit hesitant. However, since our son loves both space and board games, we needed to try it.
We gave our kid this space board game as a Christmas gift last year. It is a hit!
Apollo board game allows one player (or a team) to be astronauts. Another player acts as mission control. The game has two different versions - Gemini Mission and Apollo Mission. The goal is to complete the mission, while maintaining the necessary levels for flight control, life support, power distribution, communications, and experiments.
The game says 12+, but our 8-year-old space lover can definitely handle being either an astronaut or mission control.
Space Themed Metal Earth Kits

Several space themed Metal Earth Model kits exist. We have the Endeavour Shuttle. My kid bought it at the California Academy of Sciences.
These kits are not easy, but any space loving kid will love them as a gift. It will require adult help. But our kid enjoyed watching and building where he could.
Some cool space themed Metal Earth Kits that would make fun gifts for a space lover:
If you do buy one of these cool Metal Earth kits, don't forget to add this 3-piece tool set (clipper, flat nose pliers, needle nose pliers) in the gift bag. It makes assembling the models much easier.
