The Sansevieria Moonshine is a beautiful silvery mint green plant that is super easy to care for. It's sometimes called the Sansevieria Moonlight or Sansevieria trifasciata Moonshine. The firm upright leaves are able to fill the space.
I've had this snake plant for nearly 18 months. It continues to slowly grow taller and put out new leaves.

Appearance of Sansevieria Moonshine
There are so many qualities I love about the Sansevieria Moonshine's appearance. The silvery mint green is vibrant and unique. The patterns on the leaves are also eye catching, with dark green sound wave looking stripes running horizontally across.
The delicate dark green edge around the leaves contrasts beautifully with the silvery white green. New leaves come out a paler shade of green, but then slightly darken as they mature.

Often, you'll see this snake plant being sold with just a few leaves. The plant will mature and spread and grow with the right care.
How to Take Care of Sansevieria Moonshine
It's incredibly easy to take care of a Sansevieria Moonshine plant. Here are three basic requirements:
- Light: Bright or medium indirect light is best
- Water: Water when the soil feels completely dry to the touch
- Soil: Chunky soil
How Much Light Does a Moonshine Sansevieria Need?
Sanseviera Moonshine grow best in bright indirect light. For example, place it near a large south facing window. Another good spot would be slightly away from a west facing window, so it doesn't get the direct rays.
This is a naturally slow growing snake plant, but with good light, it will grow faster and healthier.
My plant sits on the wall next to a giant south facing sliding door. It briefly receives very weak direct light during certain hours of the day.
Why is my moonshine snake plant turning green?
While this snake plant will also tolerate lower light levels, it risks growing darker in lower light levels. Plenty of natural light will help prevent it from turning green.
In addition, the leaves will darken as they mature. Even with proper light, the leaves darken by age. This seems to be common in all snake plants.
Bright indirect light will not only help the plant stay silvery, it will also encourage faster and healthier growth too.
Water
Sansevieria plants do not require frequent watering at all. The root balls and leaves will hold on to water. Overwatering is a major concern, as it will cause the roots to rot.
I water the my Sansevieria Moonshine when the soil is completely dry. In the summer, I might water it about every 2 weeks. Both constant airflow from open windows and a hotter home cause the soil to dry out faster. Plants also typically grow more in the summer months, so they use a bit more water.
In the winter, I water the plant maybe every 3-4 weeks.
My snake plants enjoy being bottom watered. That means, I place the plant pot in a bowl of water for about 5 minutes, and allow the water to be absorbed from the drainage hole. The soil absorbs what it needs, and then I let the rest drain out before returning it to its outer pot. There's no worry about the plant sitting in excess water.
Soil
Like all snake plants, this Sansevieria Moonlight needs to have chunky soil that drains fast. I use a mixture that contains orchid bark and pumice stone.
You can also buy a premixed snake plant soil for ease. This mix contains coco coir, perlite and dolomite.
How to Style
As you can see in the photos, I have my Sansevieria Moonshine in a wall planter. I think it looks gorgeous in a white wall pot, against a white wall.
I really like these wall planters. The removable inside pot makes it simple to water.
While I love the look of the wall planter that I have my plant in, it's not the most convenient set up. I've since discovered these wall planters, and I have several of the them in my home. My to-do list includes writing a post about them, so hopefully you'll see pictures of them in our home soon.
The Sansevieria Moonshine looks fabulous in a white minimalist pot. It allows the silvery mint green leaves to take the show.
This plant looks great next to almost any plant. I have it above my Scindapsus Jade Satin. The height contrast between the plants make it look balanced.
Where to Buy
Sansevieria Moonshine is still considered a rare plant. However, it has been gaining popularity lately. Because of that, it's easier to find these days.
If you want to buy the plant in person, check local indoor plant shops. I bought mine at a local big box store. But I searched for about 6 months before I came across it that one time.
There are a variety of sites where you can buy this plant online. Canopy Plant Co. sometimes carries this plant, and I've had great experience ordering from there. You can also find a Sansevieria Moonlight on Amazon, if that's more convenient.
Why You'll Love a Sansevieria Moonshine Plant
There's so much to love about this plant. It's unique with the silvery mint green leaves. The dark green sound wave looking patterns on the leaves and the dark green outline also add interesting details. The contrast between the two colors is truly eye catching.
The Sansevieria Moonshine also looks nice in many different rooms around the home. While I have mine in a wall planter next to the dining table, it would look equally beautiful on a shelf or table top.
Lastly, and maybe the most important, it is extremely easy to take care of the Sansevieria Moonshine. Once you find it a location in your home, you'll only need to water it ever 2-4 weeks.
As always, please let me know if you have any questions.
