Scavenger Hunt for Car Rides

We often do scavenger hunts verbally during car rides. For example, we'll see who can find a pink car. Or who can count 20 trucks first.

But it's not always easy to think up things to look for on the fly, especially if I'm driving. Therefore, I created this printable scavenger hunt for the kids to know what they are looking for.

You can get my free printable below. My kids and their friends love it. In other words, it's a tried, tested and kid approved scavenger hunt.

What Can Kids Look For On the Road Trip Scavenger Hunt?

Here are the items kids look for during the road trip scavenger hunt:

wildflowers
bus
road construction
train tracks
police car
motorcycle
red barn
rest area
red car
bridge
cow
out of state license plate
tunnel
dog in a car window

Depending on where your road trip takes you, it's certainly possible for kids to find most all of these items.

Most of these items will be found along highways in the US. I didn't add in things you would find in a city or town, or more region specific items, such as corn fields.

This Scavenger Hunt for Car Rides Entertains Kids

This printable road trip scavenger hunt is great for kids of all ages.

While younger kids might not be able to read the list, they can refer to the pictures. My four-year-old loves to play this scavenger hunt.

My eight-year-old can do this scavenger hunt by himself while reading the list. In addition, when he's taken road trips with friends, I have printed out a copy for each kid.

At the end of the road trip, when all the items are checked off, we stop for ice cream.
